Ear Correction

Sail ears are a blemish that can be easily corrected with an ear correction – and beyond the childhood. Of course, a surgical procedure can help at an early age to put on protruding ears or to reduce the size or large ears, but even in adulthood an ear correction is possible.

Even with congenital or acquired problems in the ear, such as a lack of protrusion of the lower part of the ear, especially small ears, a missing folding of the pinna, large ear lobes or defect states after injury, a correction can be made.

In such cases, it is recommended to have an ear correction done in Mainz FONTANA KLINIK. Shape and size of the pinnae can be decisively improved. Defects of the ears are repaired by using implants.

Requirements for an ear correction

In pediatric interventions, the consent of the child must be given. Of course, your doctor will explain to you in detail after an in-depth discussion what you should be aware of. After serious illness or injury, the result of an ear correction in Mainz FONTANA KLINIK is always dependent on the initial findings.

How is an ear correction done?

Your attending physician will expose the back of the ear via a suitable incision and then modify or partially remove the cartilage to achieve the desired result.

The incision can also be made over several short incisions. In both techniques, the formation and fixation of the ear is done with long-lasting self-dissolving sutures. Other methods are used, for example, when cartilage tissue must be built up by implants.

Of course, your doctor will always choose the cut so that the narrow scar behind the ear remains small and inconspicuous – because we want, of course, that you are completely satisfied with the final result and can always enjoy it in the future.

What are the risks of correcting the ears?

As with all surgical procedures, after an ear correction, bruising and swelling may occur, usually healing itself after a few days to weeks.

In some cases drainage of the bruise may be necessary. Of course, your doctor will advise you in detail about possible risks. Overall, however, ear correction is a gentle procedure with a high degree of precision and efficiency, and subsequently achieves great satisfaction among our patients.
